witness

Had to see it in person Tuesday night. I was supposed to take S to swimming but that got screwed up (not worth explaining) and so brought both kids home. Wife had invited a friend over and no shock when I got there that the wine was out. I was assigned to keep little one occupied, but of course when someone new is there he wants to play with them. After the friend had left W went upstairs to do a work conference call. The remainder of the bottle went with her. Later another one was opened but not finished. By the time S was asleep and I was sitting down to start my work she was chatty, wanting to tell me things and have me laugh with her. I wasn’t in the mood. I was focused on getting my own work done for morning. She eventually went to bed and I was up late to finish. I wonder about this drinking and working thing. Did people really sit around in the 50s and drink scotch and have business meetings? Or is that just TV?

Friday and Saturday night are parties we’re attending — it’s that time of the year — and I’m come to dread them. Smile. Enjoy.
